BOND Bryan Architects have been appointed to develop the master planning for the proposed University of Cumbria campuses across Cumbria and North Lancashire.
A £70 million Carlisle campus will be the centrepiece of the university’s plans which will see its estate develop across Cumbria and North Lancashire.
Property consultants GVA Grimley in Leeds will be working alongside Bond Bryan Architects to provide planning support on the proposals and help with the submission of planning applications.
The redevelopment of the university aims to cement its identity as a single organisation and major learning institution after the university was formed last August following the merger of St Martin’s College, Cumbria Institute of the Arts, and the Cumbrian campuses of the University of Central Lancashire.
Peter Armer, director of resources, finance and estates at the university, said: “This project is a fundamental driver in the development of the Cumbrian economy. The development of our estate will help our institution operate more effectively as a single entity and provide excellent facilities in a high-quality learning environment.
“We are pleased to appoint Bond Bryan. Their team has exceptional experience of the sector.”
Geoff Halliwell, director from Bond Bryan, said: “The new plans are set to highlight the innovative and forward thinking vision of the university, which brings together its commitment to providing supportive learning environments and a very high-quality learning experience.”
Beverley Smith, director at the planning, development and regeneration team at GVA Grimley in Leeds, explained: “We are delighted to be working with Bond Bryan Architects on one of Britain’s newest universities to provide new state- of-the-art facilities at its campuses.”
