New courses mean even greater career opportunities

THIS year sees more new courses added to the already diverse list at Lakes College. The nine new qualifications will mean a wider choice for students across West Cumbria and a broader range of career opportunities for learners.

n Certificate in cosmetic make-up level 2

This course covers the application of cosmetic make-up and the necessary specialist knowledge of products and their uses, including shaping eyebrows and tinting lashes.

An advice and enrolment session for this course will be held at the college 4.00pm-6.00pm September 1.

n Certificate in Swedish massage level 3

This qualification will provide an understanding of body massage primarily for stress relief, lymphatic drainage and reduced muscle tension.

An advice and enrolment session for this course will be held at the same time and date as above.

n NVQ in horticulture level 2

This course is delivered over a 26-week period within the workplace and has two mandatory units – to monitor and maintain health and safety, and to develop personal performance and maintain working relationships.

n NVQ in management level 3

This 30-week course is delivered in the workplace and covers managing your own resources, professional development and quality of work plus much more.

n NVQ in barbering level 2

This course will develop your skills in barbering including reception, cutting hair, colouring, shampooing, styling and health and safety.

n Degree in health and social care (University of Cumbria)

This course is designed for people currently working in or wishing to work in the social care sector.

The programme enables students to develop their knowledge and skills, giving them the opportunity to pick up modules outside the specific area of social care.

n National award in engineering.

This wide-ranging engineering course takes into account mechanical aspects, practical aspects and electrical principles which leads to a level 3 qualification.

n Foundation degree in salon management.

The aim of this new course is enable the student to acquire the necessary skills, knowledge, attitudes and qualities to allow them to professionally manage a hairdressing or beauty salon.

n University certificates.

I.T. has been expanded this year to include university certificates.

These are modules from the foundation degree, validated by UCLan, that have been divided into individual courses so customers can pick and choose the units most useful to them or their business.

It is suitable for people who use I.T. regularly as part of their job, but have no formal I.T. qualification.
