Canadian star Kyle takes on the Comets

BIRMINGHAM’S Canadian star Kyle Legault is the guest tonight for Edinburgh Monarchs at Workington.

Legault is starting to hit form as he was widely expected to miss the rest of the season after suffering a broken thigh in early April but has shocked many with his return to the saddle.

He comes into the Monarchs side as a replacement for the injured William Lawson - and squares up to Jason Doyle who is guesting for the Comets at number one.

Former Comets boss Grahasm Drury, now in charge of the Brummies’ side believes it’s one of the most amazing comebacks he’s seen in his 30 years in the sport.

“It was a great moment to see Kyle celebrate 12 points recently against Redcar. Up until then he had been feeling his way and understandably he wasn’t the same rider he was before the injury.

“The lad has shown great courage and determination and he deserves to succeed. It’s a most amazing comeback, the doctors told him it wouldn’t happen and yet he’s proving them all wrong.

“Hopefully he can keep it going because the lad deserves it.”

Edinburgh will be without Thomas Jonasson tonight as he is reserve for the Scandinavian Grand Prix, and they will use rider replacement.

Edinburgh and Birmingham were due to clash last night in the second leg of the Premier Trophy final after Wednesday’s first leg had been washed-out. Mark Lemon, who guested against the Comets successfully on Monday was again filling in for Lawson.

Legault, of course, would be in the position of trying his hardest to beat the Monarchs and 24 hours later he is part of the Edinburgh side taking-on Workington at Derwent Park.

“That’s the nature of the sport,” said Comets boss Ian Thomas, “but all the riders know that points earns cash whoever they are riding for.

“We have Jason Doyle in tonight and he has every incentive to do well - not just for his own bank balance but to help Somerset who are contesting the League title along with Edinburgh.

“I thought we were in danger of losing our home record against Somerset a fortnight ago and we just managed to scrape through in the end, and tonight could be equally tight.”

Workington have Tomi Reima back at number two so will be tracking seven riders, and next week-end with the expected return of Daniel Nermark, will be able to track their registered one to seven for the first time in weeks.

Workington Comets – 1, Jason Doyle; 2, Tomi Reima; 3, Kauko Nieminen; 4, Joe Haines; 5, Carl Stonehewer; 6, Charles Wright; 7, John Branney.

Edinburgh Monarchs: 1, Kyle Legault; 2, Derek Sneddon; 3, rider replacement for Thomas H Jonasson; 4, Matthew Wethers; 5, Ryan Fisher; 6, Andrew Tully; 7, Aaron Summers.

The action starts at 7pm while this afternoon’s British Under-15s Championship at Northside starts at 3pm.
