CARLISLE golf starlet Rebecca McIntyre agonisingly missed out on winning one of the biggest tournaments in women’s golf – by one shot.
The 16-year-old finished second in the English Women’s Golf Association Northern Girls Closed Championship at Carlisle Golf Club on Wednesday with her score of 76, finishing a shot behind overall winner Rachel Goodall.
But Rebecca, from Sandsfield Park, who is a member at gained consolation by clinching the under-16 championship and winning the prestigious Kilburn Trophy.
The tournament, which attracted 47 players, was reduced from 36 to 18 holes because of a torrential downpour in the afternoon.
Rebecca, who has a handicap of five, last month finished 34th out of 120 competitors at the English Girls’ Championship in Durham City.
