Twice as delicious

THIS year’s Silloth food festival promises to be twice as big and twice as good as last year.

The two-day event will feature 20 stalls showcasing food and drink from local producers and including demonstrations and tastings.

Among the stalls in a giant marquee will be Ray’s Shrimps, Cockrobin cider, Derwent Brewery beers and cheese and meats from Wardhall Dairy.

There will also be a children’s zone, pony rides, junior football, spit roast, barbecue and giant funfair on the town’s Green.

Organiser Stephen Hart said: “The children’s area is a new thing this year to keep the youngsters happy while mum and dad are tasting things in the marquee.

“Last year we only had around 10 stalls, but they had all sold out by Sunday afternoon and we could not believe the amount of people who attended over the two days.

“We’re hoping that this year will be even better,” he added.

The festival takes place on August 16 and 17 from 10am to 5pm each day, admission free.

On Sunday there will be a free concert between 1pm and 5pm, featuring local bands Bullfrogs, from Workington, Maryport’s South Quay and Sidewinder and young Carlisle indiepoppers Robin Starch.
