It was a case of big fish at Brayton Pond for the Carlisle and District Coarse Angling Club during Sunday's Summer League match.
Longtown's Alan Little hooked a carp in the first minute of the match then after landing that fish he turned to mix some more ground bait and had a take from another carp.
Alan also landed a superb wild carp of 14lb and finished with four fish for his winning weight of 22lb 13oz landed using feeder tactics. Another angler getting amongst the big carp, but this time a different species, was Dave White who in his 16lb 5oz net included a truly massive crucian carp of exactly 3lb.
Dave who also employed feeder tactics tied for second place with Colin Griffin who also landed 16lb 5oz of carp this time using pole tactics.
Section winners were Bob Youdale of Keswick with 13lb 2oz and Carlisle's Pete Brown with 14lb 15oz.
In the final CADCAC Friday Evening League match at Crofton Lake, Thursby's Neil Rudd took first place with 12lb 12oz, Carlisle's Warren Richardson took second place with 11lb 13oz and CADCAC committee member Martin Chandler took third place with 10lb 2oz.
This result was enough to secure Martin the title of overall Friday League Champion, well done Martin. Runner up for the second season in succession was Andy Davidson.
Derek Adam's landed a 5lb 8oz bass whilst fishing Braystones beach at low water last Thursday, Derek was using a two hook flapper rig with lugworm on the bottom hook and a mackerel strip on the top hook together with a 3oz lead fished close in. The bass accepted the mackerel strip on a 2/0 hook.
At Whins pond on Tuesday evening traditionalist Tim Gustard changed his approach ignoring his centrepin, swing tip and other traditional methods he adopted boilies and PVA bags in conjunction with a heavy feeder rod and a quiver tip.
The new approach paid dividends with Tim managing three takes, landing two good bream and a tench for 14lb 10oz and first place.
Tim became the 12th angler to win a Tuesday evening league match this season making it a very even league competition. Ian Corri was pegged next to him on peg 4 and using the whip Ian landed around 150 silver fish for 7lb 5oz for second place putting him back on top of the league. Dave Wardman fished the feeder landing a few skimmers and one decent bream for 4lb 12oz for third place both on the night and in the league.
Alan Edmondson caught one 4lb 5oz bream on a spicy boilie for fourth place. Simon Willan was broken twice by big fish and unfortunately had to settle for fifth place with a mixed bag for 3lb 8oz and Craig White was sixth with 2lb 2oz.
On the river Eden at Warwick Hall last Tuesday Stephen Gilchrest landed an 11 pounder on the fly in the House Pool. On Wednesday Andy Brown landed a brace of grilse weighing 5lb and 4lb using the fly in the Coops and on Thursday John Ward fished a Toby at the Garden Wall to land a 13 pounder.
The perch are back at Longtown West Pond after an absence of 10 years.
