KESWICK School teacher Sue Sharp has retired after 37 years at the school.
She joined the school’s biology department in 1971 when she left university and her job also involved managing boarders in the school’s Bridge House, the boarding house for senior girls.
In 1988 she became the third deputy head, taking effective charge of the senior area of a split-site school, and when the new school was completed in 1996 she moved to a different structure with two deputies.
Sue was responsible for the financial and pastoral aspects of the school and her job will be divided up between administrators and shared out with the staff.
She said: “I loved the job and I will undoubtedly miss it. I will miss the interaction and banter with the kids. Even with my other duties I treated teaching as sacrosanct and taught 10 lessons a week.”
Sue will continue to live in Keswick where she plans to “recreate a more varied life,” she added.
Headteacher Mike Chapman said: “Sue will be sorely missed, but we have celebrated a unique contribution to the life of the school and its pupils and staff.”
