Bridges: I'm looking forward to getting my boots on

Michael Bridges insists his love affair with Carlisle United can be just as good second time round.
The popular striker is set for a huge ovation from fans today when he pulls on a United shirt for their pre-season friendly against Preston at Brunton Park.
Bridges yesterday completed his shock return to Carlisle on a season-long loan from Hull City.
The 29-year-old former Sunderland and Leeds United star admits he is delighted to be back at the club, where he scored 15 goals in 30 appearances, and is desperate to get his career back on track after a frustrating spell in the shadows of Hull’s Premiership-bound stars.
He said: “I can’t see why it can’t be as good second time round. The club is in a league above from the last time I was here but the standard of the team has improved.
“A lot of the lads I played with area still here and I was very impressed with the ones who have come in when I watched them during the season against Nottingham Forest when they were on Sky.
“I’m just looking forward to getting my boots on again and trying to emulate what happened the last time I was here.
“I want to move on and play football and not sit around and get spells in my backside from sitting in the stand or on the bench.
“I have great, fond memories of this place and I know how much it means to the fans. There were a few other clubs interested but I knew I wanted to come back here.
“I’ve joined on loan and I would like to make it permanent, but I’ve got to get on the pitch and do the business.”
The arrival of Bridges bolsters John Ward’s firepower for the new season and increases competition for places, with last season’s top scorer Danny Graham, Scott Dobie, Danny Carlton and teenager Gary Madine all vying to lead the attack.
Bridges said: “Danny Graham is a great forward. I knew him from his Middlesbrough days, but it’s great to have competition for places and that’s what you need.
“I can’t wait to get going again. I’ve done pre-season with Hull and I’ve been looking after myself.”
