A SELECTION of some of Cumbria’s finest food and drink will be on display in a giant 140ft-long marquee at the Lowther Show next month.
The Made in Cumbria food hall will feature 48 stands, including a string of new exhibitors selling produce such as pate, puddings, cheese and home-made cider for the first time.
The annual show and country fair at Lowther Park near Penrith will also feature local and regional food courts offering ready-to-eat freshly cooked goods like game burgers, seafood, hog roast and pizza from a wood-burning oven.
Five top Cumbrian chefs will give a series of demonstrations opposite the food hall, while the Brighton-based Kitchen Academy will stage free cookery workshops for budding young cooks aged five to 15.
Among the fun cooking methods will be the chance for youngsters to produce their own smoothie health drinks by using a blender attached to the back of a bike.
The chefs giving demonstrations will be Michael Cole (Waterhead Hotel, Ambleside), Ricky Andalcio (Zest Whitehaven), Richard Fenn (Black Swan, Culgaith), Craig Sherrington (Duke of Edinburgh Hotel, Barrow) and Nick Martin.
Made In Cumbria is also organising a craft marquee at the show, which is expected to attract around 60,000 spectators from August 8-10.
The headline acts at the main showground on the Saturday and Sunday include equine stunt rider Jean Francois Pignon and the RAF Falcons Parachute Display Team.
