Thinking of finding a part-time job?

THE holidays are here, and for some young people now is the time to earn a little pocket money – here is your guide to part-time work for 13- to 16-year-olds.

l Young people can only start part- time work at the age of 13, and can do a range of jobs.

l Prohibited employment includes working in a cinema or theatre, commercial kitchen, tele-sales, selling door to door, or in a nursing home.

l A work permit is required, which lasts for as long as the job does. An application form is available from Cumbria County Council.

l Young people aged 13 and 14 can work up to a minimum of 12 hours a week during term time, including just two hours on a Sunday, and a maximum of 25 hours a week during the school holidays.

l For 15 and 16-year-olds, 12 hours a week is also the maximum during term-time, but during school holidays, the maximum number of hours increases to 35 per week.

l Children of all ages are entitled to a one-hour break if more than four hours are worked in one day, and a two-week break during the school holidays during each year.

No, I don't have the time so I'll stick to my tins and processed stuff

Maybe, if I could find the time to go and find it
