Reed closes in on Clapperton’s record

FORMER Carlisle United kid Michael Reed will be looking to break the late Albert Clapperton’s club post-war record for league goals in a season tomorrow (3pm kick off) when Penrith entertain leaders Spennymoor Town, who are managed by ex-Middlesbrough, Manchester City and Osasuna Midfielder Jamie Pollock.

Reed has fired 26 goals in 26 Northern League starts so far this season, leaving him just one behind Clapperton’s record, which was set in 1966-67.

The young striker has been struggling with an ankle injury and may miss out tomorrow but Penrith still have three more league games after Spennymoor’s visit to the World Group Stadium.

Pollock’s team have lost just twice in the league this season andwill be promoted tomorrow if they win and they are expected to bring a large following.
