The well organised two-day event was enjoyed by 2,500 supporters who turned up to cheer on the 850 girls and boys who took part.

Carlisle City FC was formed in 1975 and boasts three senior teams and 18 junior teams in its ranks. The club was recently voted Charter Standard Club of the year by the Cumberland Football Association.

There was little to choose between the teams and the game was end to end throughout but Abbeytown’s Kirsty Girdler came close in the second half, with a terrific right foot strike, but the ball struck an up right before being cleared by Darcy Cannon.

Chelsea Nugent ran the length of the field to gain a corner for City but neither team managed to score and the game was decided by penalties. City’s Ellie Richardson, Katie Adams and Darcy Cannon all scored from the spot to give their team a 3-1 win on penalties.

The teams were evenly matched but the nearest either side came to scoring was when Harraby’s Amy Holmes tried a long shot from the half-way line and the wind assisted ball bounced once before narrowly clearing the crossbar.

The match was decided on a penalty shoot-out and Harraby goalkeeper Megan Wilson saved Warwick’s third spot kick after Chloe Broughton, Bobbie Birnie and Molly Lytollis had all scored so Harraby won three penalties to two.

Newlaithes hit top form in the final and their finishing power destroyed a gallant Stanwix team who gave their all in their previous meeting when they held Crown to a goalless draw. Tasha Sword opened the scoring for Newlaithes before Abby Townsley added a second after latching onto a Sarah McVitie pass. Sword made it three when she netted from close range and it was then left to the bustling Cally Martin to add a further two with successive strikes.

The final was very close with both teams playing good football but neither where able to score so it all came down to penalties. Liam Rayson and Thomas Jenkinson netted for Longtown who won by two penalties to nil after goalkeeper, Harry Smith, had brilliantly saved two of City’s spot kicks.

Harraby Catholic won a ding- dong battle with a first half goal scored by Matthew Travers who headed home a cross from Jacob Armstrong.

Newlaithes strove hard for the equaliser but Callum Leighton tackled well for Harraby and goalkeeper Lewis Casson made a string of fine saves from Luke Firth and Olly Morley.

The two teams were well matched and it resulted in a very good final. Both teams were strong in defence and midfield which cut down scoring opportunities.

Yewdale were cup holders but Charley Osgood scored in the first half for Gillford and Yewdale couldn’t find a way back.

Stanwix won a close encounter with a fine individual goal from talented striker Josh Morley. The game was an even contest between two fine teams and there were scoring chances at both ends.

The only goal came in the second half when Morley latched onto the ball and sped towards the Newlaithes goal. He finished off with a cracking shot which gave the goalkeeper no chance.

Carlisle City reversed the score after losing to Silloth in their previous encounter. Niall Keyes came close to scoring with a shot that struck the post but the striker made amends when he finished off a sweeping City move by turning in a cross from Dan Faughey. James Andrews then doubled the score from the penalty spot after his first attempt had been handled

The teams were so evenly matched that neither could score a goal in either of their two games and so penalties were needed to decide the final. Denton Holme won 2-0 with Shane Dorward and Lewis Thorburn scoring from the spot while Harraby had two saved by goalkeeper, Liam Conley.

There was no score when the two teams played each other in the first match of the tournament and exactly the same situation occurred when they met in the final.

When it came to penalties both sets of players showed their capabilities and Pirelli was the winning team by three penalties to two.

Craig Hunter in the Pirelli goal saved City’s first spot kick but Anton Harris and Josh Spibey were successful as were Josh Simpson, Adam Cox and Stuart Scott.

Morton forced the pace following a goal-less first half and Levi Whitham opened the scoring after a shot from Rob McCartney was blocked. The goal acted as a spur to the Harraby players and they scored two goals in a late rally to win the match. Both came from Mike Armstrong – the first from close range and the second with a superb overhead kick.

Workington had the better of the play but they just could not put the ball in the net. James Hawkins, in the Morton goal, made a great save from Gareth Brunton, who again burst clear, but his final shot was fractionally wide.

The game then went into penalties which Morton won 2-1 as Gary Richardson and Neil Jeffery hit the target.

Workington could not produce their semi-final success, when they netted six times, because only Nick Holden scored.

The third penalty sailed high over the bar amid much celebrating from the Morton players.
