Debate on plans a missed chance

The location, times, publicity and notice given for the exhibition on the Urban Design Guide and Public Realm Framework for Carlisle’s Renaissance can only lead us to conclude that members of Renaissance do not really want to know what the people of Carlisle think about their plans.
What a missed opportunity to engage as many people as possible in what concerns everyone who lives and works here!
Why not take the exhibition to local places of work – Pirelli’s, Metal Box – so employees could look at it in their meal breaks – or up to the hospital or the railway station or bus station or even the Civic Centre where a lot of local people work or pass through every day?
Even The Lanes would have been preferable to the Old Town Hall.
Renaissance affects every one of us who lives and works here.
Local residents know the city far better than a firm of Manchester consultants does.
We will also be living here long after they have all moved on.
Give the locals a real chance to have their say and there is every possibility that the city we end up with will actually reflect what its people want and need.
