Westwood is worth £1 million

AS A Carlisle United fan of more than 30 years, I cannot believe the derisory offer of around £700,000 being contemplated by the club for keeper Keiren Westwood.

I watched Sunderland’s £9 million keeper Craig Gordon in action many times last season and he is no better, in my opinion, than Westwood.

Carlisle’s keeper has proved he can handle the big match atmosphere and he has shown wonderful confidence and maturity since he became the club’s first team keeper three years ago.

At the age of 23, surely Westwood is worth well in excess of a million pounds, particularly when you consider some of the prices paid being these days.

I appreciate he has the right to play at a higher level, and good luck to him, but surely he won’t go to a club such as Coventry for this low fee.

Keiren and the club deserve better.
