Ex-Gretna youngster Lee Novak is a summer target for Workington Reds boss Darren Edmondson.
The striker was Newcastle Blue Star’s top scorer last season with 22 goals and Edmondson is monitoring the situation on Tyneside. Though there is likely to be competition for the 19-year-old’s signature, with Preston North End believed to have shown interest.
The Reds manager has invited attacking midfielder Ryan Zico Black to train with his squad when pre-season kicks off at the end of the month.
The ex-Barrow star, who has one Northern Ireland Under-21 cap, was linked with a move to Workington last year though nothing materialised.
Meanwhile Reds are still hoping to hit the jackpot with at least one pre-season clash against a Premiership or Championship club at Borough Park.
“We have written to Middlesbrough, Blackburn and Preston,” said chairman Humphrey Dobie.
“We also try to get Newcastle every year, and they are usually very good.”
Boston United, who finished four places and nine points ahead of Reds last season were relegated from Blue Square North yesterday after losing an FA appeal.
They were said to have breached Conference appendices, which state no club in administration by the second Saturday in May will be accepted into their divisions.
United formally came out of their Company Voluntary Agreement on May 20.
