Farewell – and thanks to all at post office
Last updated 13:44, Saturday, 17 May 2008
I have lived in the Warwick Road area for 46 years and the Warwick Road Post Office has served the citizens of Carlisle and the local community all those years, and many years before that.
But unfortunately the moment of truth has arrived and our local post office will close within the next two weeks.
A tragedy for many pensioners.
Since the ending of the pension books, pensioners have a PIN number and they draw their pension at the Post Office by putting their number in the machine.
Sometimes they get mixed up with the numbers, but it was no problem at Warwick Road.
I would like to thank all the counter staff who have been absolutely marvellous in dealing with elderly people when we sometimes made a mistake.
Every Monday I will no longer hear those magic words: “Good morning, dear”, “Take your time, dear”, “Don’t hurry”, “We have plenty of time”.
I am 82 and it has always been a pleasure to be served by the staff at Warwick Road Post Office and I will miss their good humour, tolerance and understanding. I would like to say; ‘good luck and good health’ to those members of the staff who are retiring.
To those who are not retiring I hope they are reinstated to their satisfaction and wish them happiness and to their families.
Thank you very much from an old age pensioner.
