Nicola and David, from Aspatria, are getting married on June 28 at St Bride’s Church in Kirkbride – her family’s parish church, the church she was christened in and the place where her parents Ann and John got married in 1981.

And there will be plenty of guests to help them celebrate their big day.

There will be 100 family and close friends attending the ceremony and a further 200 at the evening reception, being held at the White Heather Hotel in Kirkbride.

Receptionist Nicola, 22, said: “We know the hotel well and know that the food is good. It can hold a large number of people so it was the obvious choice for our reception.”

Nicola and David met three years ago when they were both in Blackpool celebrating friends’ birthdays.

They kept in touch and a couple of months later they saw in their horoscopes that they would meet someone at a seaside resort.

Nicola said: “When we read this we knew it was fate that had brought us together in Blackpool.”

It was in October 2006, when the couple were passing a ring shop while shopping in Buchanan Gardens in Glasgow, that the issue of marriage came up – and they decided there and then to tie the knot.

The date they set also happens to be the date of Wigton Carnival this year.

Nicola said: “It rained at last year’s carnival so I hope this isn’t an omen.”

After looking round a lot of dress shops, Nicola found her outfit in Dresses and Dreams in Workington.

She said: “It is completely different to what I thought I would like. My mum started crying when she saw it.”

Great aunt and retired textile teacher Pat Curzon is making the dresses for the six bridesmaids and Aperture Photography in Carlisle will be taking the photographs and video.

“We have had family portraits done by them,” said Nicola. “I like the fact that they don’t just take the traditional photographs of people standing in a line but will take more relaxed shots of people enjoying themselves.”

Carlisle band Leroy Johnson and the Flicks will provide the entertainment and will play Nicola and David’s first dance – Iris by the Goo Goo Dolls.

Nicola has chosen an exotic and colourful array of flowers of deep purples and oranges.

She said: “I do like classic things, but I also like things to have that wow factor so it is nice to go for something a bit different.”

Nicola’s parents Ann and John have been decorating their house in preparation for the big day.

David, 22, is originally from Aspatria and is a process worker at Innovia Film Processing in Wigton.

His stag celebration took place at the beginning of April in Leeds; Nicola is looking forward to her hen weekend in Edinburgh at the end of this month.

The couple will spend their honeymoon in Mexico.
